William Boyce Cuppett was known by his middle name of Boyce and also went by the nickname of Sam. He was born at home in Napier Township with his Grandmother Blackburn as midwife and lived there with his family until they moved to Dale Borough in Cambria County around 1918. Boyce was an athlete at Dale High School from which he graduated in 1928. He married twice, having one child with each of his wives. Boyce was a member of Beulah Evangelical United Brethren Church in Johnstown and a volunteer in the Dale Fire Company. Through his years of employment in the Johnstown Plant of Bethlehem Steel Corporation from 1930 to his retirement Boyce held a number of different positions, including machinist, weighman, and foreman.
