George Luecker

At an early hour Thursday evening, Feb. 13, George Luecker Sr., an old and highly respected citizen of our village, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Goodhew.
The deceased had reached the advanced age of 82 years, but up to three weeks ago was able to be up and about the home. He was born in Germany Sept. 2, 1830 and came to his country in 1872 locating at Centerville where he followed his chosen profession that of cabinet maker. He was married in Germany in 1856 to Margaret Mueller who preceded him in death 42 years ago. His second wife died in 1899. After her death Mr. Luecker lived at Brillion six years then he came to Reedsville where he has since resided.
Five children are left to mourn his death; Fred, George and Jacob of Brillion, Mrs. B. Mueller of Manitowoc and Mrs. Wm. Goodhew of this village. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The deceased was a man of deep piety and of strong religious convictions and it is said that his seat in church was never vacant at Sunday services. At the last presidential election Mr. Luecker cast his vote it being marked at that time that it would probably he his last ballot for president. At the same time his grandson, Howard Goodhew, cast his first vote. The deceased was one of nature's true gentlemen. Naturally quiet, and of a retiring disposition, true as steel to the home and friends, intensely interested in his chosen profession which he still practiced. Mrs. Goodhew has in her home a beautiful library table and music cabinet which he completed Christmas 1912. They are skillfully made and finished, Mr. Luecker doing all the work himself in his rom with his own tools. The family highly prize the heirlooms and they will ever be cherished in memory of the departed dear one.
The funeral took place Feb. 14, the body being taken to Brillion where services were held at Friedens church of that city. His remains were laid to rest in the village cemetery in Brillion. Many from this village went to Brillion to pay a last tribute of respect to the departed citizen.
