JACOB LUECKER

Jacob Luecker, 88, former Brillion village president, school board member, and prominent in the business life of the community for many years, died Wednesday at the Deaconess hospital in Milwaukee following a lingering illness.

He was born in Germany in 1857 and in 1872 accompanied his parents to Centerville. He learned the cabinet makers trade and in 1879 moved to Brillion, where two years later he married Miss Wilhelmina Schroeder. She died in 1933. Later Mr. Luecker, with two brothers, established a cabinet making shop and in 1887 with his brother, George, opened a furniture store. When the latter retired from the business it was continued by Jacob Luecker and his son Fred. A modern store and undertaking parlor was built in 1921.
Mr. Luecker was active in public affairs of Brillion. He served on the village board for years and also several terms as village president. He was a member of the Brillion volunteer fire department, organized in 1882 was instrumental in adding a three year high school course of study.

He was also president of the old Brillion Furniture Company when it was one of Brillion's important manufacturing institutions.

Survivors are two sons, Fred of Brillion, Dr. A C Luecker of Plymouth; two daughters, Mr. J. A. Schmidt and Lydia of Milwaukee; two brothers, George of this city, Fred of Brillion; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Luecker funeral home in Brillion and at the evangelical and Reformed church, of which Mr. Luecker was a member. Burial will be in the Brillion Cemetery.
