They had twelve children, Delia (who only lived 3 weeks), RILEY THOMAS LEWIS , (my Dad's grandfather), Icessia Merinda Caroline, Johne William, George Wright, Bryant Nixon, Sonnia (Sonny) Carter, Lucy Lumanie, Vannie Ray, Doctor Richard, and Lonie Ada.
"Nursie" was the nickname given to her by neighbors in Verona for being the only mid-wife in the area and died of a sankebite. She reached her hand into a potato bank for sweet potatoes for dinner and a white oak snake bit her arm. The story goes that her arm eventually rotted causing her death. She and Ike were buried at the old home place in Verona until the government moved them to Jacksonville in 1941 or 1942 (what is now known as Monford Point Federal Cemetery.)
She was a wonderfully sweet lady.
