John was the son of Isaac and Nursie Lewis. He was called "Dude" becuase he always dressed very sharp. He was born in Verona and married Annie Williams who was the mother of his 11 children. She was from Sneads Ferry and died in 1944. After her death, Dude remarried 3 times. His children by Annie were Mary Louise Lewis born Oct. 5, 1898 and married George Forshee; Solomon and Owen Lewis twins born Oct. 10, 1900. Solomon died Nov. 25, 1900 and Owen died Dec. 10, 1900; Lila Mae Lewis born May 10, 1904 and married Jimmy Maryek; Malcom "Bud" Lewis was born Sept. 18, 1906 and died in a fire in 1964; William Dude Lewis was born Aug. 27, 1909 and married Elizabeth "Dot" Copeland; Annie Elbert Lewis born Feb. 18, 1912 and married Bill Dean; Lizzie Bell Lewis born Nov. 10, 1915 and married Herman Mangum; Miller and Mildren Lewis born June 15, 1921, Miller married Janina Bielicka from Poland; Pandora Lewis who was born and died in 1923; and Gertrude Lewis born July 13, 1935 married Bill Pearson.
