Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ralston Chapel, with Rev. Henry Cortner officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Whitaker was a native of Lincoln County, a son of the late James Knox and Katie Sugg Whitaker. He operated a general store and cotton gin at Coldwater for 50 years. He was a member of the Coldwater Methodist Church.
His first wife, Mrs. Annie Hayes Whitaker, died in 1948. He later married Jessie Lee Hayes, who survives.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Carl Raby, Ft. Myers, Florida; two sons, James Robert Whitaker, Lincoln County, and Dan F. Whitaker, Nashville, Tennessee; two sisters, Mrs. Will Flannagan and Mrs. Roy Ables, both of Lincoln County; two brothers, T. J. Whitaker and Howard Whitaker, both of Lincoln County; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
