Norma Rider Hoopes, 86, of Ogden, UT, died March 4, 2002. Mrs. Hoopes was born May 15, 1915, in Salem, ID, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Loader) Holman, with her twin brother, Norman, arriving minutes later.
She grew up in Sugar City, ID, and received a degree in education from Ricks College. She taught school in Victor before marrying Preston Hoopes in Portland, OR.
She had lived in Utah and Missouri most of her life.
She enjoyed singing, raising flowers and playing bridge.
She was a member of the Sweet Adelines Barbershop Chorus for many years in Provo, UT, and in Independence, MO. She was a member of the International Championship Barbershop Chorus-Independence Chapter.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a grandson and four brothers.
Her survivors include her sons, Paul Hoopes, Ph.D., and Mary, Hollywood, FL; Dr. Grover Hoopes and Carol, Ogden, UT; Retired Lt. Col. USMC Richard Hoopes and Phyllis Quigley, Bristol, TN; Dr. Philip Hoopes and Marilyn, Sandy, UT; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers; and five sisters.
Services are Saturday at the Flamm Mortuary, Rexburg, ID. Burial will be in Rexburg Cemetery. Friends may call tonight at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, and Saturday at Flamm Mortuary.
