Born in Sugar City, Idaho, the youngest of 13 children of Albert and Mary Rider Holman, Mary Ruth Holman Prestgard, 78, completed her earthly life at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of complications due to surgery. She married Major Reed A. Prestgard (Ret.) September 20, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. Living in Alaska, North Dakota, New Mexico, Texas, Hawaii and Utah, together they had a great life while Reed served in the United States Air Force.

An avid seamstress and accomplished pianist, Ruth loved life. Attending Rick's College in Rexburg, Idaho and later graduating summa cum laude from Church College of Hawaii with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Education, she was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint. Ruth served a two year mission in California and together with Reed, they served two missions in Nauvoo Illinois.

Her husband, they 4 sons and 5 daughters; 43 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brothers; and sisters survive. Her brothers: Albert, Darin, Loren, Norman and Garth and sister Norma Hoopes predeceased Ruth.
