OBIT: Joe Evans, age 82, Joplin, Mo. formerly of Cameron, passed away Oct. 3, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, due to complications following pneumonia.
Joe was born Nov. 16, 1931, in Norborne, Mo., to John Royer and Elizabeth “Bettie” (Leibold) Evans, and raised along with his twin sister Joyce in rural Caldwell County, by parents Samuel and Bernice (Stair) Martin since infancy.
He was a 1950 graduate of Lathrop High School and a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the LDS Church in Joplin. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver for more than 30 years, was a former auto auction buyer, and had owned both a used car business and an automotive recycling yard in NW Missouri for many years. Joe always had a love of the automobile, he spoke of owning nearly every model ever made at one time or another in his life. He did not know a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Rondald, Wayne, Don, Dow, and Max Evans; three sisters, Geraldine Dempsey, Nina Bean, and Ruth Smart; two granddaughters, Misti Eve Evans and Mercede Evans; and former wife Ellen (Wright) Evans.
Joe was survived by his twin sister Joyce Rice, 4 daughters, 3 sons, 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Memorial service and burial at a later date.
