He was born May 6, 1927, to Ely M. and Roada (Rabon) Alford in Aynor, SC.
He married Peggy Jean Roberts in 1950, in Spartanburg, SC. They were married 64 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers W.J., Hubert, and T.E. Alford, and his two sisters Emma and Jane.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Alford; daughter LaJuan Alford; son Jack Alford; grandsons Dusty, and Josh and wife Margaret and their daughter Phoebe, all of Odessa; sister Mary Johnson of Georgia; son-in-law Clayton Alford of Odessa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shorty loved to race. He was a racecar lover-racing in Odessa, Abilene, and San Angelo Speed Bowls. He loved his family. He ran Shorty's Place for 35 years, and was an avid Nascar Race fan.
