Actress. Born in Worcestershire, England, she was a star of early silent and sound films mostly under contract with Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Studios. Her career spanned some two decades from 1919 to 1940, appearing in some 63 films, a few of them uncredited, with actors like Bela Lugosi, Lionel Barrymore, Jean Hersholt, William Powell, and Gary Cooper. She performed roles as a mother, maid, secretary, flower girl, clerk, and a dancer, among others. Her films include "The Loves of Letty" (1919), "The Branding Iron" (1920), "Oliver Twist" (1922), "Pleasure Mad" (1923), "A Noise In Newboro" (1923), "Greed" (1924),"Counsel For The Defense" (1925), "The First Night" (1927), "The Cohens And Kellys In Atlantic City" (1929), "Hell's Angel's" (1930), "Dracula" (1931, with Bela Lugosi), "Goldies Get Along" (1933), "Jane Eyre" (1934), "Little Lord Fauntleroy" (1936), "Grand Ole Opry" (1940). She retired from pictures after appearing in her last film, "Li'l Abner" in 1940, to focus on her family. She was married to Otto Pierce, a camera operator, who worked on many classic Hollywood films, from October 26, 1927 until his death on October 22 1957. With Pierce she had two children. She was also the daughter of actor Herbert Standing Jr., granddaughter of actor Herbert Standing Sr., a cousin to actress Kay Hammond, and a niece to actors Sir Guy Standing, Wyndham Standing and Percy Standing. She spent her later years in Houston, Texas, passing away from cancer in 1979.
