Police Chief, Dan F. Schmidt, 51, Route 1, died Friday, May 28, at Hadley Regional Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1931 at Hays, the son of Ray A. and Dorothy Leikam Schmidt.

He married Cecilia Leiker on Nov. 19, 1956 at Hays. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, David Charles, LaCrosse, and Daniel F., of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Diana Marie) Radke, Hays, Danielle Lynn, Debra Ann and Donna Raye, all of the home; five brothers, Marcellus and Bennie, both of Plainville, Elmer and Alfred, both of Hays, and Willard, Norman, Okla.; five sisters, Mrs. Jim (Martina) Maska, Mrs. Fances Parker and Mrs. Annabelle Leitz, all of Hays, Mrs. Mary Esther Munk, Oakley, and Mrs. J. O. (Lillian) Bennet, Augusta, Ga.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in the church cemetery. Friends can visit at Brock's North Hill Chapel from 3 to 9 p.m. today and 1 - 9 p.m. Monday. Parish wake service will be 7 p.m. Monday, also at Brock's.
