Oakley -- Mary Esther Munk, 82, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Logan County Hospital. She was born June 20, 1920, in Ellis County to Raymond and Dorothy (Leikem) Schmidt.

She married Joseph Munk on June 13, 1938, in Vincent.

She had been an area resident for 58 years, coming from Hays. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, and St. Joseph Altar Society.

Survivors include five sons, Richard, Newport, Neb., Frank, Oakley, Garrie, Syracuse, Jodie, Oakley, and Craig, Winona; four daughters, Naydene Spresser, Hoxie, Eloise Reed Tholen and Barbara Voth, both of Oakley, and Marietta Dreiling, Holdrege, Neb.; a brother, Willard Schmidt, Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Frances Parker, Hays, and Lillian Bennett, Augusta, Ga.; 52 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979, a daughter, Billie Ostmeyer, a son, Keith, two sisters, Martina Maska and Annabelle Leitz, and six brothers, Alfred Schmidt, Elmer Schmidt, Clarence Schmidt, Benny Schmidt Marcellus Schmidt and Danny Schmidt.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, with Father Roger Meitl officiating; burial in church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph School, Logan County Hospital or Logan County Manor.
