Marcellus Francis Schmidt, 89, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Cherry Hill Health Care Center, Englewood, Colo. He was born Feb. 3, 1913, in Catherine to Raymond A. and Dorothy (Leikam) Schmidt.


He was a veteran of the U. S. Army 86th Fighter Squadron during World War II. He was a pumper in the oil fields for 20 years, working for Sohio Oil Company. He spent his lifetime in the Zurich and Plainville area. He moved to Cherry Hill Health Care Center in Englewood, Colo., two years ago.


He married Florine Rome on May 20, 1947, in Victoria.


Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Richard Schmidt, Plainville; a brother, Willard, New Castle, Okla.; three sisters, Mary Esther Munk, Quinter, Frances Parker, Hays, and Lillian Bennett, Augusta, Ga.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.


He was preceded in death by five brothers, Alfred, Clarence, Elmer, Dan and Bennie; and two sisters, Martina Maska and Annabelle Leitz.
