Jacob C. Stecklein, 76, 1601 Canterbury, died Wednesday, March 24, 1993 at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus. He was born Aug. 19, 1916 in Munjor to Corneil and Anna (Pfannenstiel) Stecklein.

He married Sophia VonLintel Nov. 16, 1937 in Victoria.

He was a farmer. He was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays, and Knights of Columbus, Victoria.

Survivors include his wife, Sophia, of the home; two sons, George of Hays, Jude of Sylvan Grove; a daughter, Mary Ann Mermis of Hays; a brother, Alois of Munjor; two sisters, Katie Wasinger and Margaret Billinger, both of Hays; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wendelin, Fidel, and August.

Service is schedule for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, 2901 E. 13th, with Father Daniel Scheetz officiating; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. A parish vigil is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, at Hays Memorial Chapel, 20th and Pine. Visiting hours are from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School.
