Alois C. "Shorty" Stecklein, 90, Munjor, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Hays Good Samaritan Center. He was born May 17, 1919, east of Munjor to Corneil and Anna (Pfannenstiel) Stecklein.

He married Louise Pfannenstiel on June 11, 1946, in Hays. She preceded him in death March 13, 2006.

He was a 1937 graduate of St. Joseph's Military School, Hays. He was a farmer and was a janitor at Munjor Grade School for 15 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars. Post No. 9076.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Stecklein, Munjor; a son, Ramsey Stecklein, Munjor; and a sister, Margaret Billinger, Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Wendelin Stecklein, Jacob Stecklein, Fidelis Stecklein and August Stecklein; and a sister, Katherine Wasinger.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601; inurnment in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Munjor, with military honors by the Hays VFW Post No. 9076. Family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 am. Saturday at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Dreiling - Schmidt Cancer Center/Hays Medical Center in care of the mortuary.
