Family trees have Varney and Amey Andrews as his parents, yet most of these have him born in Nashville, Tennessee, meaning, if his birth place is correct, his parents could not be Varney and Amey. The 1880 Census for Collin County, Texas, however, has his son William Clayborne Andrews' father born in Virginia, dispelling the notion that our William Andrews was born in Nashville, a place Varney and Amey could not have lived. Needless to say that, although the DNA of William Andrews' descendants confirm that they are related to Varney Andrews, William's parentage has not been confirmed and may even be doubtful since Varney already had a son William Alexander Andrews, and two children named William is very unlikely. However, William Clayborne Andrews named two sons "James" and two sons "David".

Many of Varney and Amey's children moved to Monroe County, Kentucky, before some moved on to Williamson County, Tennessee (Jones Andrews), and Texas (Varney Andrews, Jr).


William G. Andrews married Elizabeth Harriot Stephens (Birth 1787 Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee; Death 1850 Franklin, Williamson, Tennessee) on November 22, 1816 in Williamson County, Tennessee. She is the daughter of Loammi Stephens (Birth 1760 Duplin, North Carolina; Death 21 FEB 1815 New Orleans, Jefferson, Louisiana) and Mary "Polly" Cannon (Birth 4 MARCH 1770 North Carolina; Death 3 MAY 1846 Lincoln, Tennessee).

2. William Clayborne Andrews (Birth 2 SEP 1819 Franklin, Williamson, Tennessee; Death 25 SEP 1892 McKinney, Collin, Texas). On 16 Sep 1841 in Fayetteville, Lincoln Co, Tennessee, he married Mary Ann Darnell (Birth 26 JUNE 1825 Fayetteville, Lincoln, Tennessee; Death 6 MAR 1897 McKinney, Collin, Texas) and they had the following children: William Cornelius Andrews (1842–1909); James T. Andrews (1846–1899); Thomas C. Andrews (1848–1915); Lucy A. Luna (1852–1925); Henry D. Andrews (1856–1881); Robert Fulton Andrews (1861–1941); James Adron Andrews (1865–1922) and David Ephriam Andrews (Birth 5 NOVEMBER 1868 Tennessee; Death 7 APRIL 1923 Ft Worth, Texas).

3. Mary Andrews (Birth JANUARY 12, 1822 Williamson County, Tennessee; Death 03 NOV 1906 Marshall County, Tennessee). On March 15, 1838 in Marshall County, TN, Mary married William Saye Finley (1819–1893) and they had the following children: Sarah Elizabeth Finley
