Robert was born on the 1st of October and baptised on the 14th of October.

Robert died at Almont. He is buried near his infant daughter Agnes - her name is mentioned on the headstone. His wife Sarah is buried in Chelmsford, Essex.

Robert and Sarah married 10 Nov 1854 in Mauchline and had 13 children together:- David, John Smith, Sarah Ann, Robert, Elizabeth Jane, George Smith, James, Elizabeth Young, Margaret Smith, William Smith, Hugh Lamont, Agnes and Jeanie/Jane.

Their daughter Elizabeth Jane Hodge was born Sept 1863 in Kilmaurs and died 1865 also in Kilmaurs at age 1.
