He married Jane Duff circa 1886. Their children include:- Mary Jane 1887, Sarah Smith 1888, Robert 1889-1889, David James 1890, John Smith 1892, Elizabeth Duff 1894, Margaret 1896, William Robert 1897, Euphemia Young 1900 and Agnes Easter 1902. This is by no means accurate so any corrections/additions welcomed.
Several hundred mourners attended the funeral which was held at the Congregational Church in Billericay. (The graveyard surrounds the Billericay United Reformed Church, previously known as the Congregational Church).

Inscription
In loving memory of Robert Hodge who died Oct 16th 1908 in his 47th year also of his eldest son Robert who died Dec 25th 1889 aged 7 weeks. Thy Will Be Done. Also Jane Hodge died April 19th 1945 aged 87 years.
