NAZARETH - Anthony Acker, 79, died Monday, May 14, 2007, in Dimmitt.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today in Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church with the Rev. Ken Keller and Deacon Jerome Brockman officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery in Nazareth. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Anthony married Angela Wethington on Feb. 15, 1953. He was a farmer most of his life. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth. He was on the Dimmitt Wheat Growers Junior Board, Plains Memorial Hospital Board, Deaf Smith REC Board, he was the financial secretary of the Catholic Order of Foresters for more than 50 years, a member of the Nazareth Lions Club, Holy Family Parish Council, Nazareth Hall Committee, Eucharistic minister and was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.

He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Acker; four sisters, Clara Kleman, Alice Acker, Emma Moser and Mary Acker; and two brothers, Herman and Paul Acker.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Acker; six sons, Kevin, Dale, Hugh, Cary, Dwight and Norbert Acker, all of Nazarerth; five daughters, Kathy Birkenfield of Nazareth, Nancy Buchanan, Joyce Schlabs and Denise Marnell, all of Hereford, and Colette Borel of Frisco; two brothers, David Acker of Corpus Christi and Denis Acker of Amarillo; three sisters, Doris Britten of Groom, Margaret Gallager of Olton and Phyllis Podzemny of Sedan, N.M.; 30 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials be to St. Anthony's School Endowment Fund, 103 Sunset, Hereford, TX 79045; or Castro County Child Protective Services (CPS), P.O. Box 929, Dimmitt, TX 79027.
