Amanda Dell Akers, 84, of Sharpe’s Turn Road near Princeton, a former resident of Sophia, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at her residence. Born June 5, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Washington and Birdie Florence Basham Shrewsbury.
She was a retired inspector for Amphenol Corp. in Cicero, Ill. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sophia and most recently attended Ashworth Regular Baptist Church in Princeton. She lived in Sophia 20 years before moving to Illinois. She returned to Princeton in 1996.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Browning of Woodridge, Ill., and Vanice Gogar and her husband, Shaz, of West Chester, Ill; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Wardie Shrewsbury of Princeton; three sisters, Iris McGinnis and her husband, Dayton, Noma Lilly and her husband, John, and Maudie McKinney, all of Princeton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at the George W. Seaver Funeral Home Chapel in Princeton with Pastor Larry Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowling Cemetery in Spanishburg. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
