Thennie Virginia Hairston Dent, 94, was called from labor to reward on Thursday, August 27, 2020. Thennie was born on February 2, 1926 and was the seventh of twenty-one children born to the late Burgess and Ruby Waller Hairston.
Thennie was blessed to be a member of a large and loving family where she was taught the importance of having a relationship with the Lord. Her parents graciously opened their home to the late Bishop H. C. Eggleston where the initial services of the Shiloh Way of the Cross Church were held.

Thennie accepted the Lord as her personal Savioir at an early age and was a member of Shiloh Way of the Cross Church. As God would have it, Thennie moved to Roanoke , Virginia where she became a member of Bibleway Pentecostal Apostolic Church of Christ under the pastorate of the late Bishop C. P. Jones. In 1945 Thennie married Davis Dent and to that union fourteen children were born.

Later, Thennie joined Garden of Prayer #7 under the leadership of Bishop Shadrack Brown, Jr. Thennie was a devoted mother of the church and served in various capacities including Missionary Board, Pastor's Aide, Church Choir, Sunday School Ministry and Fellowship Tea Committee. She was faithful and committed until her health declined.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by Davis Dent; daughters, Carolyn Dent, Roslyn Dent and Helen Dent-Solomon, sons, Mark Anthony Dent, Wilfred Dent, David Dent, daughter-in-law, Star Dent, six brothers George Hairston, James (Bubba) Hairston, Dover Hairston, Jesse (Bill) Hairston, John (Pete) Hairston, Joe L. Hairston, three sisters, Lillian Hairston Carter Eggleston, Clara Mae Hairston Lampkins, Janie Hairston Adams.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Burgess Dent, Levi (Terri) Dent, Frank Dent, Nathaniel Dent, Richard (Rethia) Dent; daughters, Ruby (Ron) Hutton, Audrey (Henry) Wiens, Bonnie (Marvin) Martin; son-in-law, Kenneth Solomon; three sisters, Gertrude Hairston Cook of Washington, DC , Annie Ruth Hairston of Cleveland, OH, Mabel Hairston Pritchett(Ben) of Martinsville, VA; two brothers Ervin Hairston(Indiana) of Martinsville, VA, Harry Hairston (Janice) of Axton, VA; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
