The funeral for Dover Hairston, 76, of 79 Stockton Road, Martinsville, who died Jan. 22, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel United Way of the Cross Church. Bishop John Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Hairston was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Martinsville to Burgess Hairston and Ruby Waller Hairston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George Hairston and James Edward Hairston; and a sister, Janie Hairston Adams.
He worked at Tultex/Sale Knitting for more than 40 years, and he was a member of Bethel United Way of the Cross Church.
Surviving are his wife, Eunice S. Hairston of Martinsville; three sons, Steve Golden of Greensboro, N.C, Mark Hairston and LaMont Hairston, both of Martinsville; three daughters, Belinda Hairston of Martinsville and Angela Hairston and Jennifer Hairston, both of Reston; six sisters, Lillian Eggleston of Martinsville, Clara Mae Lampkins of Cleveland, Ohio, Thennie Dent of Roanoke, Gertrude Cook of Washington, D.C., Annie Ruth Hairston of Cleveland and Mabel Pritchett of Martinsville; five brothers, Jesse H. Hairston, John W. Hairston, Ervin Hairston, Joe Louis Hairston and Harry L. Hairston, all of Martinsville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
