Joe L. Hairston, 81, of Axton, passed away, August 2, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Henry County, on June 20, 1939, son of Burgess Hairston and Ruby Waller Hairston. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, George Hairston, James Hairston, Dover Hairston, Jesse Hairston, John Hairston: three sisters, Lillian Hairston Eggleston, Clara Mae Hairston Lampkins and Janie Hairston Adams. He was survived by his wife, Barbara Niblett Hairston; a daughter, Valerie Hairston Barbour (Perry); a grandson, Brandon M. Hairston; four sisters, Thennie Hairston Dent, Gertrude Hairston Cook, Annie Ruth Hairston of and Mabel Hairston Pritchett; two brothers, Ervin Hairston and Harry Hairston. Joe worked for the Henry County Sheriff’s Department for 39 years as First Lieutenant. He attended Law Enforcement Officer’s Training School and was the National Deacon of Board Treasurer of The Way of the Cross Churches International. He was a member of the Carver Ruritan Club.
Burial will be at Carver Memorial Gardens.
