Service was for
Pernia Irene Lay age 83 of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed from this life on Thursday, September 28, 2022 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born December 23, 1938 in Duck Run, Kentucky to the late Luther Hamlin and Nellie (Cox) Hamlin. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Algia Lay; brothers, Elmer, Ray, Archie, and Roy Hamlin; and sisters, Ruth Wilson, Ruby Gilreath, Reba Anderson, and Nora Mae Walker.
Surviving family include her daughters, Teresa Yancey (and Randall) of Science Hill, Kentucky, Denise Neal (and Jerry) of Pine Knot, Kentucky, and Carla Reeves (and Dale) of Bowling Green, Kentucky; step-sons, Jerry and Terry Lay; grandchildren, Ray Waters, Eric Yancey, Todd Waters, Josh Yancey, Tarah Musgrove, Natasha Reeves, and Tyler Lay; and great-grandchildren, Levi Yancey, Kahlia Waters, Kylan Yancey, and Lily Yancey.
Pernia was a member of the Whitley City Church of God. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was also a proud lifetime member of the American Legion Lady's Auxiliary, Kinnie Slaven Post 115 in Stearns, Kentucky. Pernia loved to play cards and dance to music with her dog whom she called "Feisty". Her family jokes that she was also a professional Nascar driver, having left her feet prints in the floorboard of the vehicles she drove. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Dixon officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday after 5:00 pm until service time at the funeral home. Pernia will be laid to rest on Thursday at 10:00 am at the East Pine Knot Memorial Gardens.
