HOPE -- Fred Baxter, 94, of Hope and formerly of Clifford, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday April 14, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor.
Mr. Baxter retired from Cummins after 20 years in 1973 and was a farmer.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and square dancing.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Norman Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Branstetter officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Miller's Merry Manor Activity Fund.
Born in Jefferson County Feb. 20, 1910, Mr. Baxter was the son of Ed and Anna Painter Baxter. He married Sylvia Dowden Feb. 10, 1930.
He is survived by his son, Morris Baxter of Columbus; daughters, Phyllis Trisler and Shirley Davis, both of Clifford; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on April 13, 1993; a son, Bob Baxter; brothers Homer, Walter and Floyd Baxter; sisters, Lottie Swinhart and Toiley Ferguson; a half brother, Joe Wright; and a half sister, Deanna Mankin.
