Leslie was the youngest of twelve children. His seven brothers were Benjamin Herman Farmer, Joseph Eddie Farmer, Tolly Edgar Farmer, Thomas Barton Farmer, Arnold Irvin Farmer, Jesse Runion Farmer, and Coleman Livingston Blease Farmer.

Leslie's four sisters were Candace Leila Farmer Burrell, Hattie Maybelle Farmer, Bessie Russell Farmer Henson, and Ruby Marcelle Farmer Fitts.
