George raised his large family in the Mount Lebanon Community of Greer, Greenville County, SC. "Grandpa" Farmer never learned to drive a car. He loved to ride with some of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren up to the mountains of South and North Carolina in the fall each year to see the leaves and buy fresh apples. He would sit in the backseat with the great-grandchildren and occupy them by playing the "cow game". Each child would count the cows he/she saw in pastures on his/her side of the car along the way. When a church cemetery was passed on the child's side, he/she had to "bury" the cows and start all over again. Whoever had the most cows when the destination was reached won the game. Grandpa loved children. The only type of clothing I remember ever seeing him wear was old-fashioned denim overalls with the metal buckles on the shoulder straps. I remember going with my mother to take Grandpa to Bailles-Collins Department Store on Trade Street in downtown Greer to buy overalls.
