Candace Leila Farmer Burrell was the 2nd of 12 children of George Washington & Rosa Ross Farmer.

She was born, raised, and lived her entire life in the upper part of Greenville County, SC.

Leila married Melvin Ansel Burrell on December 7, 1924; and was a loving and supportive wife for over 40 years until his death in 1965.

She was a devoted "Mama" to her 5 children - Edgar "Otis" Burrell; Nellie Beatrice "Bea" Burrell Duncan Hammett; "Mildred" Azilee Burrell Duncan, "Claude" Thomas Burrell; and James "Cecil" Burrell.

Leila was also a loving, adoring, and extremely patient "Granny" to her 17 grandchildren - Lucille, Raymond, Carolyn, Donna, Sandy, "Buddy", Sherri, Ann, Beth, Brian, Patricia, Tommy, Anthony, Lisa (who pre-deceased her), Susan, David, and Melanie.

Granny did not live to see on this earth most of her great-grandchildren, of which she has many, nor her many great-great-grandchildren.

Granny never learned to drive a car, but she loved to be on the go. If anyone said "Let's go...", Granny didn't ask where; she just said "Let me get my pocketbook", and she was ready to get in the car.

Her favorite pastime was fishing. Granny never missed an opportunity to fish nearby creeks and rivers. She would be on the bank before sunup, and fish until noon. If you called her house on any warm morning and did not reach her, you could bet she was "down on the river". She loved any kind of fish, but her favorite was catfish.

We grandchildren always loved spending the night or entire weekend at Granny's. She let us do just about anything we wanted and never worried about us breaking or damaging her belongings. Granny did not value material things. And she never minded having two, or three, or more of us spend the weekend with her.

If you spent the weekend at Granny's, you had better bring your best Sunday clothes, because going to church with her on Sunday mornings was not an optional thing. Granny was a life-long devoted member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Whenever the church doors were open, and she had transportation, she was there. She loved her Lord and loved to sing the old-fashioned hymns, praising His name.

Granny died in Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital in Greer, SC after suffering a heart attack.

We miss her very much!
