** in Loving Memory of Martin **

Our wonderful Grandfather Martin is loved, missed and remembered forever in our hearts. Martin Married the Love of his Life, Oline Olson. Martin was a beloved Husband,Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Nephew, Son, Best Friend. Our beloved Grandma, Martin's Wife Oline never dated again after he past away in 1969. Throughout our lives, until Grandma passed away at age 98, she talked about her Love for Martin and shared life stories about her beloved Martin.

Grandpa Martin grew up in a large Family. His Family of origin lived many years in the Darling and Little Falls Minnesota area. Martin met his beloved Oline when she

lived with his sister Margaret's Family when she first started teaching

school in that area. Martin and Oline also lived a few years in the Little

Falls area. ( And Chicago Illinois, Wadena Minnesota, N. Mpls Minnesota.)

Oline spent all her time with Family, worked many years beyond retirement until

she joined Grandpa Martin in 2004 in Heaven. Both our wonderful beloved

Grandparents are laid to rest at the Fort Snelling National

Cemetery in Mpls, MN. Both Martin and Oline loved their Family

more than anything else in the world. They always had a house

full of family visitors and often grandchildren stayed with them.

They always welcomed company and got excited about family visitors

from "out of town." Martin was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather,

Brother, Cousin and Nephew. Martin worked hard all his life to provide

for his family. During tough economic times he worked wherever he could

including Chicago Illinois, Idaho and Alaska if he could not find work in

Minnesota. Martin was very gifted. He was a very smart, highly skilled

man with many talents . Martin was social, outgoing and a joy

to spend time with. Both Martin and Oline were wonderful Parents and

Grandparents, great role models. After he retired from the Railroad, he

spent much of his time with Family. Grandpa Martin loved to teach his Grandchildren to fish, garden and go to the store to buy Brach's Candy at Piggly Wiggly in N. Mpls near their home. Martin loved to Garden. His son has passed on morning glory seeds he saved from Martin's plants. Martin had beautiful morning glories all over his yard. Grandchildren loved to spend time with him gardening. Grandchildren loved to go fishing with Martin, row his small boat, fish with worms and cane poles. Martin raised his own fishing bait in his worm garden at his cabin. We had many wonderful times at the homes he and Oline shared in N. Mpls and at their Lake Cabin across the street from Lake Mtka in Island Park MN. ( Deven & Tuxedo Road on huge hill)

The Cabin was old, rustic, wood stove for heat, outhouse, pump in kitchen sink

for water with plenty of room for Family. There was always room for one more

when Martin and Oline had guests. Everyone was welcome to stay whether their stay

was planned in advance or not. He raised worms for fishing with used coffee

grounds and dirt and had plenty of fishing cane poles for all. He had an

old aluminum 14 foot fishing boat. We went ice fishing on the lake too.

Martin's Son's Family lived next door to Martin and Oline's cabin for a while.

We had many gatherings with all our relatives. Nice wooded property on abt

an acre (?) or so with plenty of parking and an outhouse in the back. Many

Family remember their cherished times at the Cabin.

Martin was close to all of his siblings and their families, he saw them

often. We gathered with Family who lived locally and their families

often, including spending weekends together at Martin and Oline's cabin.

When Martins relatives from "out of town" joined us, it was a real treat.

Many relatives lived in Illinois and other areas around MN.

Martin's brother Wally ( Oscar) could have passed for his Twin. Years

after Martin passed away, even his grandchildren got confused by

Uncle Wally's striking resemblance. funny stories. They knew Grandpa

had passed away, but if Wally was visiting, he was so much like Grandpa,

the young grandchildren thought Grandpa had returned. Martin named

his oldest Son after Uncle Wally. Martins Sister Lena Carlson Hamernick's

also held large family gatherings at her home in Big Lake on the lake.

We gathered there with his siblings and their families often too. We still gathered

yearly many years up until a couple years ago in their Honor, carrying on their

tradition. We talk about Martin, Oline and so many we loved who have

since passed away. They were wonderful people, we miss and remember

them all. Martin worked for the Railroad while his Grandchildren were

growing up. Martin and Oline took them to the Milwaukee Railroad Depot on Washington & 3rd St. Downtown Mpls,MN. He was also a gifted carpenter.

Martin was a hard working Man. He once worked in Alaska for approx. a year

during hard times when his oldest son was 9-10 yrs old. Family work ethic

was strong. His son had a paper route at a young age in Wadena.

Oline grew up in the Wadena MN area.

When Martin worked in Alaska, Oline and their children lived in a house in

Wadena MN that year. Martin's beloved late In Law's, Oline's Parents Anton

and Hannah Olson lived in Wadena. Martin had many relatives including

his Parents John & Lena Carlson,Siblings other Family who lived in

Darling and Little Falls MN. Taking trains to Wadena was special. Martin

was a wonderful Husband and Dad. Martin loved to talk about his large

Family.

Martin's former next door neighbor the late Marty Loso, was

Martin's youngest son Roger's boss when Roger worked in the railroad yards.

The late beloved Marion and Martin Loso were were good friends and

neighbors. Son Roger Carlson " Butch" lived with his Parents most of his

life until Grandma Oline became ill and She stayed with

their Daughter Marlene's Family in abt 2002. ( the late Marlene & Don Cadotte.)

Grandpa Martin and Grandma Oline usually had many family visitors and

a house full relatives. Grandma Oline continued this tradition and often

had many guests up until she moved to Marlene's home.

Their neighbor the late Beloved Marion Loso looked out for Grandma

many years after Grandpa passed away. It there were concerns, she

would call one of us, if needed, 911. We hand delivered

Christmas Cards to Marty's Widow Marion Loso and visited with her at least

yearly until she passed away Dec. 2017 in honor of our Grandparents.

Marion shared fond memories of Martin & Oline during our visits.

The Loso Family purchased Martin & Oline's home after Oline passed

away. Marion offered Family the opportunity to tour the home.

We have years of wonderful cherished memories.

Martin and Oline were special to everyone they ever met. They welcomed all.

While neither of their homes or their cabin were really large, it

was always and ongoing joy talking about how many relatives they could fit

into their homes, including overnight guests. No matter how many relatives

were visiting, they always had room for one more. They helped relatives

during the hard economic times. It was an ongoing smiling moment to speak

about just how many relatives they could accommodate to visit or stay over.

Never a worry. They were always eager for Family visits. Their homes

were not fancy and were filled with love. We were all very blessed to

spent so much time with both of them. Grandma Oline talked about

our Beloved Grandpa Martin and shared stories about him with all of us

the rest of her life. Grandma Oline lived until she was 98 yrs old and

she had lots of loving cherished stories to share about our Dear

Grandpa Martin. Grandpa Martin was the love of her life and she

never dated after he passed away.

Martin passed away at home unexpectedly at 1015 17th Ave N. Mpls MN.

Oline, Martin and son Roger had just moved to this home within abt a year

before Martin passed away. Martin, Oline and Son Roger previously resided

for many years in N. Mpls near Lyndale/Aldrich Ave N. down the alley

from the Elizabeth Hall Elementary School. Their home property

and neighborhood area properties were torn down to build a new school.

Their neighborhood was redeveloped to build the Franklin Jr. High School at

1501 Aldrich Ave N. Mpls MN. The home Martin lived at when he passed

away was a short distance from where they previously lived many years.

Martin's Funeral services were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in N. Mpls.

(now River of Life Church, same location) Martin was a strong Man of Faith. Martin

and Oline passed on their strong Christian Values to their children and Grandchildren.

Our Family were very active Members at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Grandpa Martin left us to go to Heaven in 1969. Grandpa Martin and Grandma Oline

at their North Mpls MN home when Grandpa Martin passed away. They were enjoying each

others company as always, talking, laughing. They were very much in love with each

other and very devoted soulmates. As they were retiring to go to sleep, Grandpa

Martin had a heart attack at home. Grandpa Martin passed away at home from the sudden

unexpected heart attack. Grandma Oline called for emergency medical help right away.

Writer still remembers her frantic, very sad call to notify our Family our beloved Martin

had passed away. He was the love of her life.

Their final time together of these two lifetime soulmates was precious. Oline was heartbroken as were all of us. As of 2017, many of us can picture Grandpa Martin clearly, remember his funny quotes, what he taught us about life, family stories he shared. We all have countless fond cherished memories of our wonderful Grandpa Martin John Carlson. Our Grandpa Martin had a big smile, hearty Carlson laugh and warm loving personality. We will cherish those wonderful memories of Martin forever. Martin and Oline were wonderful Parents and Grandparents.

Grandma Oline never dated another man the rest of her life. She had opportunities, but

declined. She loved Grandpa, missed him with all her heart and was not interested

in ever dating anyone else. She continued to devote herself to her children,

grandchildren, other family the rest of her life.
