Rev. Jesse H. Smith

Rev. Jesse H. Smith. 58, retired. Baptist minister, died yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at his home, 13 Hatch street, Brandon.

For four months he had been in ill health. Rev. Smith was born and reared in Spartanburg county, a son of the late Heyward Smith and Ann Blackwell Smith. He lived for some time in Williamston and Pelzer before moving to Greenville. For 33 years he had lived here.

Rev. Smith was an ordained Baptist minister and for two years was pastor of Little Texas Baptist church. He later served for some time as pastor of West Greenville Baptist church. His church membership was at Brandon Baptist church. Until his health failed four months ago Rev. Smith was an employe of the Brandon corporation. He was also a member of Brandon lodge No. 279 A. F. M.

His wife, Mrs. Mattie Luther Smith, survives him with three daughters, Mrs. Marvin Turner Mrs. Monroe Herd and Mrs. Willie Owens; two sons,

Sam Harrison Smith and L. A. Smith; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grand children. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Emma Oliver, Mrs. Lula Alman and Alfred Smith. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed but will be announced later by Thomas McAfee Funeral home.
