Maitland Diocese:
Mrs. Margaret Darcy, mother of Les Darcy, the one-time boxing champion, died at her residence, Emerald-street, East Maitland, on the 11th inst., after a long illness, following a stroke.
A native of Seaham, she was 57 years of age, and spent the greater part of her life in the Maitland district, where she was held in general esteem. She was a devout Catholic, and took a very active part in all parochial movements up to the time of her illness.
The death of her famous son, Les, was a great blow to her, but the beautiful home in which she lived, his gift to her, was always a consolation to her, and a reminder of his splendid devotion to her as a son.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Edward Darcy, four sons, Cecil, Edward, John and Joseph; and four daughters, Pearl, Lily, Muriel and Kitty.
The funeral was very largely attended, Rev. Father Murtagh officiating at St. Joseph's Church, East Maitland, and at East Maitland Cemetery. R.I.P.
