WILLIAM SIDNEY MEEKS, 75, of Heflin, Ala., formerly of Villa Rica, died Friday at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, following an extended illness.

He was born February 2, 1929, in Whitesburg, Georgia to Sidney and Lilla Meeks.

He was baptist and served in the U S Army during World War II in the Infantry. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the American Legion Post #70.

He is survived by his daughter Patricia Hembree; brothers Hubert and Nancy of Panama City; Harold and Jeanette of Villa Rica; Joseph and Donna of Anniston; Hugh and Edith of Heflin; sister in law: Maureen Meeks of Villa Rica ; two grand children Amanda Michelle Hembree of Temple and Jeremy Shane Washington of Paulding Co. extended generations.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by a daughter Vera Elaine Meeks Washington; brothers George, Daniel, Delmus and Charles (infant).

He married Jackie Smith July 19, 1953 and they had two daughters. (He and Jackie divorced later).

Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home on May 24, 2004 at 1pm. Rev. Glenn Morrow and Rev. Brian Haney (George Meeks' grandson) officiating.
Nephews were pallbearers.
