Josie was the daughter of Stephen A. Gruber and Ella Nora Duncan. She married "Lewis" Pearl Lewis Cruikshank on December 18, 1909 in Ault, Weld Co., CO. They were the parents of three children:
1. Chester Gruber Cruikshank (1913-1970) stayed and lived in Colorado.
2. Kenneth Scott Cruikshank (1914-1972) was wounded during World War II and was released into Josephine's custody. He disappeared one day and sometime later a man showed up at her door with a letter. Kenneth had died in a hotel room in San Francisco.
3. Doris Leola Cruikshank (1916-2011) never married. She was a civilian court reporter for the US Army and spent most of her adult life overseas.
All of the Cruikshank children were born in Idaho.
