The Flensburg News section of the Little Falls Daily Transcript of Thursday, June 21, 1917 (p. 2), listed the following two deaths from the same family (no obituary section then existed):

Joseph Jaskowiak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jaskowiak, died at his home Sunday morning, June 17, after an illness of a few hours, the disease being diphtheria.

Agnes, the 6-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jaskowiak, died Monday afternoon from a bad case of diphtheria.

The following article was published in the Daily Transcript of Monday, June 25, 1917 (p. 3)

Headline: Two Children Died Today; Four In 8 Days

Julia and Blanche Jaskowiak, daughters of Stanley Jaskowiak, Culdrum town, apparently in the best of hearth Sunday afternoon, were both dead today from diphtheria. This makes the fourth death in the same family within eight days, two children dying last week from the same disease.

Julia Jaksowiak was 15 years of age and her sister Blanche nearly 4 years old.

Interment was immediately made in the cemetery at Flensburg (diphtheria is highly contagious – A. Super).

The official Minnesota death index online has different death dates than the Daily Transcript for the four children, all using the misspelled surname Jaskowion, with deaths in Morrison County. It is assumed these dates are correct.

The death dates differ in the Minnesota death index online with surnames all misspelled as Jaskowion: Joe died June 14, 1917, Agnes on June 18, Blance on June 20, and Julia died June 25, 1917. It is assumed these official death dates are correct.

At some later time, several members of this family changed the original Polish spelling of the Jaskowiak surname to Jaskoviak as inscribed on the gravestones. There is no “v” in the Polish alphabet.
