The official Sacred Heart Catholic Church death records were examined by Arlin Super to provide the following death and burial dates for the four children of the Jaskowiak family who died of diphtheria over an 8 day period. Because diphtheria is highly contagious, all burials were on the same or following day.

Joseph died June 17, 1917, and was buried the following day, at age 17 years, 2 months and 26 days.

Agnes died June 18, 1917, and was buried the following day, at age 5 years and 6 months (no days were cited).

Bronislawa (Blanche) died June 25, 1917, and was buried the same day, at age 3 years, 5 months and 17 days.

Julianna also died on June 25, 1917, and was buried the same day, at age 15 years, 4 months and 23 days.

The Flensburg News section of the Little Falls Daily Transcript of Thursday, June 21, 1917 (p. 2), listed the following two deaths from the same family (no obituary section then existed):

Joseph Jaskowiak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jaskowiak, died at his home Sunday morning, June 17, after an illness of a few hours, the disease being diphtheria.

Agnes, the 6-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jaskowiak, died Monday afternoon from a bad case of diphtheria.

The following article was published in the Daily Transcript of Monday, June 25, 1917 (p. 3)

Headline: Two Children Died Today; Four In 8 Days

Julia and Blanche Jaskowiak, daughters of Stanley Jaskowiak, Culdrum town, apparently in the best of hearth Sunday afternoon, were both dead today from diphtheria. This makes the fourth death in the same family within eight days, two children dying last week from the same disease.

Julia Jaksowiak was 15 years of age and her sister Blanche nearly 4 years old

At some later time, several members of this family changed the original Polish spelling of the Jaskowiak surname to Jaskoviak as inscribed on the gravestones. There is no “v” in the Polish alphabet.
