Velma Fern Axsom, 86, of Central Avenue, formerly of Harvest Lane, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Willow Crossing Health Care Center.

She was born in Lawrence County June 26, 1924, the daughter of Logan and Izola Hawkins Todd. She married Rev. Herschel D. Axsom May 16, 1942 in Bedford. He preceded her in death June 18, 2000.

She was a member of New Hope Pentecostal Church of Columbus.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Dale Goddard officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

She is survived by sons, Ronnie W. (Shirley) Axsom and Farrell (Evelyn) Axsom, all of Columbus; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, six brothers and three sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers; two sisters; and two grandsons, Scott and Ronnie Axsom Jr.
