The Ely Miner, January 22, 1904

Robert H. Childers died at the Shipman Hospital Sunday evening at 8 o'clock of tuberculous kidney.
He was a man 38 years of age and was ill for over a year, although only five weeks previous to his death he quit work. On Thursday he went to the hospital and on Saturday morning was operated on. sunday at noon he began to fail and all that medical skill could accomplish was not sufficient to prolong his life after 8 o'clock.
The funeral occurred Wednesday from the M.E. church the remains being taken to Tower for burial. The services at the church were conducted by Revs. Saunderson and Logan and took place at noon in order to reach the afternoon train. The funeral was largely attended, the Odd Fellows, of which deceased was a member, turning out in a body to escort the remains to the church and later to the grave, nearly fifty members of that order going to Tower. The floral offers were beautiful and appropriate, Ely Lodge No. 220 furnishing a most beautiful pillow, the Sunday school of the M.E. church the same and the Rebekahs an elegant floral tribute. Many individuals also tendered flowers.
The remains were taken on the afternoon train and laid to rest in Lakeside cemetery. The train was met at the depot by Tower lodge of Odd Fellows and a host of former friends and fellow citizens. Revs. Saunderson and Logan said prayers at the grave followed by the beautiful ritualistic funeral service of the Odd Fellows.
"Bob," as he was familiarly known, was a very popular friend among a large circle of his associates. Of a quiet, genial disposition, he made friends with his pure mode of living. He was of a most generous nature, always doing his mite towards helping suffering mankind. He was a most dutiful son and on his afflicted parents falls the loss of a most loyal helpmeet. In truth it can be said, the world was better for "Bob's" having lived.
The sympathy of the community is with the sorrowing relatives.
