Fought in WWI; was in Company 'F' He was in the Battle of Cantigny, France; Chateau Theirry and Argonne Forest. Was injured in 1919; received the Purple Heart.

Second wife Mary nee Drew on November 11, 1941 in Beulah, Benzie, MI.

lived in Sturgeon Bay and moved to Newaygo, Michigan about 1942. After the war, he was employed as a breakman for the Green Bay & Western and worked for the government engineering department. Through the years, had window cleaning business, furnace & chimney cleaning business, worked at Barkhausen Oil Service and operated a Phillips 66 Service Station on Union Street, Sawyer, Door County, WI.
After going to Newaygo, he was employed at the Valley Inn and later by R.H. Curley. About 1947, he worked as a surveyor for J & D Daverman Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan; also doing carpenter work in partnership with Ray Sherwood.

Roy Maples, age 50, died suddenly Monday from a heart attack at his home in Newaygo, Michigan. which is about 70 miles from Frankfort. Funeral services were held there, but relatives in Wisconsin were unable to attend.

Mr. Maples was born here August 14, 1897, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Maples. At the age of 16, he lied about his age and enlisted with Company F Volunteers of the 32nd Division and served overseas. He was shot through the left lung while in action.
Married to Mrs. Ruth (nee Cofrin) Isabell, that union ended in divorce and about five years ago at Newaygo, where he was a foreman with a contracting crew, he married again {Mary nee Drew}. Mr. Maples was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers: Reuben of Oconomoc and Harvey of Manitowoc and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Peterson of Two Rivers and Mrs. Mel Peterson of this city. Six other brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
