The death of Frank Kolbe of the town of Charlestown shortly after 11:30 o'clock on Saturday morning of last week came as a shock to his many relatives and friends, who, though knowing he was seriously ill, did not lose hope for his recovery.

Mr. Kolbe died from the effects of blood poisoning that developed in his left hand. Nine days previous to his death a sliver penetrated one of his fingers while using a hay fork and infections set in. Everything possible was done to check the infection but it reached such a stage on Friday last that amputation of the left arm was resorted to in an effort to save his life. Mr. Kolbe grew worse rapidly and on Saturday morning passed away.
Frank Kolbe was born on July 16, 1873 in the town of Charlestown, being a son of the late Robert and Mrs. Kolbe. He spent his boyhood on his father's farm assisting in its operation until 1902. On Feb. 4, 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Woelfel at St. Martin's church in Charlestown and immediately after marriage they took up residence on the farm near the east city limits on which he was residing at the time of his death.

He was the father of five children, three girls and two boys, all of whom with the wife survive him. They are Irene of Madison, Sister Taurata of St. Joseph's convent, Milwaukee, Marie, Alois and Herbert at home. Besides his wife and children he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Robert Kolbe, two brothers, Joseph and John of Charlestown and three sisters, Mrs. Jos. Mullenbach, Mrs. Nic. Mullenbach and Mrs. Frank Keuler of Charlesburg.

Frank Kolbe was a quiet, honest, hardworking man and was devoted to his wife and family. He was untiring in his efforts to secure their happiness and comfort and was about ready to enjoy the fruits of his years of labor when the Grim Reaper called. He was a devout member of St. Mary's church and also of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and the holy Name Societies, which organizations attended his funeral in a body. His untimely death is a great loss to his wife and children and to his many relatives and friends by whom he was held in high esteem.

Funeral services were held from St. Mary's church, Rev. Fr. A. Pritzl officiating with interment in St. Mary's cemetery.
