He was born on June 20, 1915 in the Town of Brothertown, son of the late John and Minnie (Dorn) Schmitz. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He farmed in the family homestead farm in the Town of Brothertown, and then worked for the Chilton Metal Products Co. for 18 years until retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton.
Survivors include three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth Grenzer of Chilton, Betty O'Donnell of Lansing, Mich., Loorie and Bill Lintner of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Edward and Rita Schmitz of New Berlin, John and Liz Schmitz of Chilton, and Helen Schmitz of Chilton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Schmitz.
Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, 1995 at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary New S.D.S. officiating. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and on Monday at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of services. A parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
