Mr. Robert P. Schmitz, 67, of 609 Marygold St., Chilton, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1988, at the V.A. Medical Center in Milwaukee from a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 13, 1921, son of the late John and Minnie (Dorn) Schmitz.
He married Helen Rollmann on May 28, 1949 in Kiel. He was self-employed as a painter in the Chilton area. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Chilton, the St. Mary’s adult choir, and the Holy Name Society. He graduated from Chilton High School in 1939. He was a WWII veteran and served in the Army in the South Pacific for two years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, two daughters and one son-in-law, Mrs. Myron (Marybeth) Ravenscroft, Arlington, TX; Jean Schmitz, who is now serving in the Peace Corps in Cameroon, West Africa; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Robert (Geri) Schmitz, Madison; Thomas (Mary Ellen) Schmitz, Muskego; Greg (Carol) Schmitz, Chilton; Richard (Missy) Schmitz, Delavan, IL; Joseph Schmitz, Sheboygan; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Grenzer, Chilton; Betty O’Donnell, Lansing, MI; Lorri Lintner, New Berlin; three brothers, Donald Schmitz and John Schmitz Jr., Chilton; and Edward Schmitz, New Berlin.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Grace and one brother, Lloyd.
Funeral Mass was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Chilton, the Rev. Paul Brick officiating. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery.
