KATHERINE CASPER

Katherine Marie Casper, age 86, passed away at the Hamilton Home in Two Rivers on April 15, 2007 and went home to the loving arms of Jesus.

Katherine was born Aug. 23, 1920, in St. Nazianz, town of Liberty, and lived in Manitowoc County all her life. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Heim) Casper. She graduated from Kiel High School with the class of 1938. Katherine worked at the Salvatorian Center, Zannacker's Cleaners, Tecumseh Products, and retired from Fisher Hamilton Industries in Two Rivers. After retirement, her pride and joy was her work at Knollwood Mausoleum as a tour guide and receptionist. She was a longtime member of the former St. Casimir Parish, Northeim, the former Sacred Heart Parish,
Manitowoc, and was currently a member of St. James Parish, Cooperstown.

Katherine took pride in her appearance at all times and was very meticulous in all that she did. She was a strong and gentle woman who spent her life living her faith and loving her family. After retirement, she enjoyed her work cleaning Dr. Bell's medical office, going to rummage sales, eating out, and helping Sister Michael at Sacred Heart Parish. She was proud of her high school education, nurse's aid training, and of her German heritage. Everyone enjoyed Katherine's special smile, hugs, and pleasant, good-natured personality.

Katherine loved life, family and friends. She was always forgiving, never judging; always including, never excluding. She had a very special gift, no matter who she was with, she made them feel special. She was a real people person. Katherine was always willing to offer a helping hand to those in need. Music and dancing were her passions.

Mom was a free spirit and gentle soul, easy to know, easy to smile. We've never known her to say a bad thing about anyone; she always saw the good in people. She had a hard life but never complained. Mom loved the simple things in life and gave selflessly of herself. She asked for so little in life and her generosity spoke volumes. Our childhood memories are so beautiful. Yes, you have left your mark! Katherine treasured time with her family and special friends.

Why would Jesus allow mom to suffer many years from the progressive Alzheimer's disease? The answer has to be out of love. People who have been given much to suffer, God must love them very much. We watched you, through many smiles and tears, as you fought, struggled, and suffered through much pain and many hurdles with tremendous courage and determination to win your battle. You never once considered giving up, but it just wasn't meant to be. God must have needed a special woman in heaven.

A thief, Alzheimer's disease, came awhile back and following a stroke slowly took our mother away. At first we hardly noticed and sometimes joked about what life can bring. Mom tried her best with what she had and only the Lord knows we did, too, but the thief just took control and stole each bit of her we knew. Now the battle is over and mom is at rest.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; one child; four sisters; one brother; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2007, at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Ron Colombo with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, Highway 310, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2007. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call on Thursday morning at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.

We will deeply miss you, Mom. We love you very much and will never forget you. Mom touched the hearts of many and will always be remembered as the most beautiful woman they knew. Thank you for all the wonderful years we had together. We are so grateful that God has taken you home and freed you from the suffering. You will always have a special place in our hearts. "Everyone says that lives will end, people really just get their wings and a shining halo and set off toward Heaven." We will always thank God for the gift you were to all of us. Thank you, Lord, for allowing mom to experience a long life on this earth and for the many blessings she enjoyed. We all have a lot of good memories that will always be a part of our lives. We know you are with us in a different way now, looking down on us and looking forward to the day when we can all be together again. You are now with God and in His hands, where you have peace.

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die," John 11:25-26.

Life gives us time but love gives it meaning, and makes the trip worthwhile. Now you have the wings of an angel. See you on the other side, mom. We love you will all of our hearts.

To all of my children, thank you for all your help in your own special ways. To my family and friends, I want you to know how much I love all of you and I appreciate your care and tender loving assistance during my final days on earth. The doctors didn't guarantee I'd live this long, so I surprised them one and all. Do not cry for me for I am finally free, as you see the sunset remember me. I will be waiting to meet you again. Never forget the Lord in your lives. Love, Mom (Katherine).

Thank you, God our Father, for your immeasurable love, in giving us the gift of your only Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord, for giving me the gift of my precious daughters and son.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. (private) and (private), nurse practitioner, for the many years of care given to Katherine. You are all very special people and your compassion and kindness will never be forgotten. Your dedication, love and kindness are truly appreciated. A special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers who treated our mother with compassion and respect, who saw past the disease, and appreciated the true nature of this gentle and kind woman. Your kindness and love will always be remembered. Thank you to all mom's neighbors who watched out for her during the years she lived alone. Also, words cannot describe our gratitude to all the compassionate caregivers at Harbor House and Wildwood Estates, Manitowoc; Hamilton Home and the Medical Staff at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.
