The 01 Jun 1900 Census (Monroe Co., TN) shows Travis Phillips born Apr 1898 (his brother Franklin born Mar 1896). 30 Mar 1898 for Travis is per his death cert., and the 1918 and 1942 draft registration. In the 12 Sep 1918 WW1 registration, Travis Tom Phillips is living in Akron, OH and working for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. His POC was his mother in Tellico Plains, TN. Seems Travis must have been in Jeffrey, Monroe County, TN not long afterwards working for the Babcock Lumber Company. Travis and Garnet's daughter Cleo was born in Jeffrey on 25 Jul 1924. Jeffrey was a logging camp that had a post office which opened in 1923 to serve the lumber company. The logging camp was in an area known as Jeffrey's Hell. Travis may have also been assisting his brother Eldon with his taxi service that ran between Jeffrey's and Tellico Plains, TN (in only good weather due to a poor road).

In Sep 1925, a fire destroyed much of the Jeffrey's logging equipment, camp homes of about 75 families, millions of feet of logs ready to be shipped, and thousands of acres of timber. The camp foreman and cook had died, and a train sent to rescue the logging crew and their families had also burned. In 11 Mar 1926, Travis and Garnet's son Alan was born in Tellico Plains. The Jeffrey post office had closed by Nov 1929 since logging had ended there by then. It's not known when the Phillips' family moved to Washington state, but their son Dale was born in Kelso, WA on 29 Sep 1929. The 1930 to 1950 census indicates Travis was working as a machinist at a lumber mill.
