John W. Mattes, 64, of Collins, died unexpectely Monday afternoon, Sept. 8,
at the home of his daughter.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Collins. The Rev. Kenneth Edenhauser will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mattes was born July 30, 1916, at Collins, son of the late John and Anna Lawrence Mattes. He was employed by Manitowoc County Highway Department for 32 years until his retirement in January of 1979. He married Ida Vallesky
Nov. 20, 1937, at Collins. He was a past member of St. Peter School Board and the church council.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Judy of Hilbert; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Eugene Behnke of Route 4, Chilton; a sister, Mrs. Harvey (Ovella) Kleist of Collins; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Rolland (Frieda) Mattes of Chilton; and eight grandchildren (private). He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Reedsville Funeral Home, Reedsville, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and until 11 a.m. Thursday and at the church from noon until the time of services.
