Mrs. Anna Mattes, 76, of Collins, widow of the late John Mattes, died Friday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Friedens Evangelical Reformed Church, Reedsville. The Rev. Ralph Kluge will officiate and burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery.
She was born Anna Lawrence in Eaton, Dec. 5, 1879, daughter of the late Warren and Sophia Lawrence, attended the district schools and Jan. 18, 1900, was married to John Mattes of Schleswig. The couple lived in Kiel several years and then moved to Collins to operate a hotel and tavern. Her husband died Sept. 5, 1953. Since then she had resided with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kleist, at Collins. She was a member of the Womens Guild of the Friedens congregation in Reedsville.
Surviving are three sons, Roland and John of Collins and Armie of Appleton; three daughters, Mrs. Harvey Kleist and Mrs. Elmer Defske of Collins and Mrs. Adolph Riemer of Manitowoc; sister, Mrs. Herman Voelker of Kiel; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 2 p.m. Sunday. The casket will be moved to the church at 11 a.m. Monday.
