Josie Rickerl was the third of eleven children of Rosa Kunz and Casper Rickerl. On 13 Feb 1907 in Marshalltown, Iowa she married Charles Wallace Hausafus. Unfortunately this marriage was not to last - within 17 months this new bride was struck with typhoid and died from the resulting complications due to pneumonia at the age of 26.
