Lorraine M. Ewald, age 93, a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

Lorraine was born June 13, 1921 in the town of Liberty, Manitowoc County. She was the daughter of the late William and Marie Clausen Matthias. Lorraine was a graduate of Valders High School. She was employed as a switchboard operator for Liberty Switchboard in Valders and later became employed as a seamstress with Graymar Drapery in Manitowoc. On June 13, 1942 she married Armin F. Ewald at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in the town of Liberty. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2001. Lorraine partnered with her husband Armin on their dairy farm and they both pioneered maple syrup production in Manitowoc County. Lorraine was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, St. John's Ladies Aid, sang soprano in the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church Choir, and was a member of the Lutheran Women's Mission Society. Lorraine was also active as a Leader in 4-H, taught sewing in 4-H and also to her granddaughters, enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, was a lifelong member of the Shadyside Homemakers, traveled with her husband both in Europe and extensively in the United States. Together Lorraine and Armin enjoyed their retirement by wintering in Arizona visiting their daughters and family who were residents there. Lorraine was also active with the Manitowoc and Scottsdale Senior Centers and volunteered as a receptionist at the Manitowoc Senior Center where she also started the first Scrabble Club.

She is survived by her four children: Janice Wehausen, Tucson, AZ; Richard "Dick" (Martha) Ewald, Manitowoc, WI; Bonnie Ewald and best friend Linae Day, Scottsdale, AZ; Susan "Sue" (Bob) Kempfert, Manitowoc, WI; nine grandchildren: Rachel (Terry) Coyle, Richard (Kim) Wehausen, and Jayme (David) Kahn; Angie Hanson, Allyson Ewald, and Adrianne Ewald; Amir Rafizadeh; Jason (Bethany) Kempfert, and Heather (Terry) Wellner; nine great grandchildren: Chrystel (Larry), Matthew, Dustin; Caitlyn; Ebyn, Cayden, Auden, and Ashton; two great great grandchildren: Brayden and Jace; two sisters: Eline Glaeser, Manitowoc, WI; Bernett "Bea" Lorfeld, Valders, WI; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Marie Matthias; her husband: Armin; three brothers: Arland, Vilas, and Edward; one son-in-law: Roy Wehausen.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 7531 English Lake Road, Manitowoc, WI. Officiating will be Rev. Victor Headrick and Rev. Michael Gorte with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum on Monday. Relatives and friends may call at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 29, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. noon until the time of services at 2:00 p.m.
