Eldest son of Isabella Cavanagh and James Hanlon. The Hanlon family were part of the Peter Robinson settlerment in 1825. Michael, his parents and many of his siblings as adults, settled in Otonabee township. He married twice, he and his first wife had Francis and Isabella. He then married Margaret Sullivan at his first wife's early death. Michael and Margaret had several children, James, Michael, Maurice, John, Thomas, Richard, Anne and Daniel. Michael also died at a young age, leaving Margaret to raise the children and carry on the Hanlon homestead.
