J.W.Gray Is Dead
John Gray was born Jan, 23rd 1850 near Madison,Jefferson County Ind, and departed this life Aug. 31st 1923, at the age of 73 years 7 months and 8 days.
He was married to Celia Ann Cummins at Napoleon Ind. July 19, 1873, In 1880 the moved to Kansas settling in Morris County, Near Council Grove.
In 1910 they moved to Americus where they resided at the time of Mr. Grays death.
To this union were born twelve children five of whom preceded him to the other world.
The surviving children are Byron of Quenemo, Fannie Ellison and Flora Lamb of Longton, and Roy, Henson, John and Ruth Houk of Americus.
Besides his wife and children he leaves three brothers all living in Indiana; 23 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn his loss.
He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, a good neighbor and a great lover of his his home.
His death was a great shock to his family and community.
The funeral were conducted by W.B. Harvey at the family residence at 2 o'clock last Sunday afternoon.
The singers were Loren Drake, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kerr, and
Mrs Milliken. The remains were laid to rest in the Dunlap Cemetery.
